Moreton Island boasts some awesome snorkeling locations. Its 15 dramatic shipwrecks are now a habitat for a myriad of tropical reef fish, colorful coral and other marine life. These ships were scuttled by the Queensland Government between 1963 and 1984 to provide safe anchorage for small watercraft on the eastern side of Moreton Island. Coral has now formed in and around the wrecks, creating an artificial reef.
Your tour begins with a safety briefing before heading out by boat to the wrecks. Hop into the water and explore this intriguing snorkeling site. You’ll see brightly-colored corals, come face-to-face with tropical reef fish, and you might even spot a dolphin, wobbegong or dugong playing nearby in the water.
