Head to the coast to learn about Fiji and some of its natural wonders.
The significance of Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park is its ethnographic and natural history. Many fragments of pottery found here are believed to date back to the migration of the Lapita people, of Taiwanese and Filipino origin. Other kinds identified are associated with certain migration periods among the various peoples known as South Sea Islanders. While you're here, hike along the edge of the sand dunes for an hour, delving into ancient and more recent history.
Pivot to some crop-to-cup insights into Fiji's burgeoning coffee industry. At the headquarters of Bula Coffee, learn how they're teaming up with remote villages to grow, harvest and roast wild, organic coffee beans and directly boost the rural economy. Fiji's isolated highlands lend themselves handily to growing this upland crop. Each beverage comes with two shots -- one for your cup and the other a shot at a better lifestyle and steady income for Fiji's remote villagers.
