Depart the pier by motorcoach and head to Kingscote. The largest township on Kangaroo Island, Kingscote is home to about 1,800 islanders and enjoys a beautiful location on Nepean Bay.
You'll have about 30 minutes of free time to wander along the beach, browse in the local shops for souvenirs, or purchase a quick cup of coffee (at your own expense).
Reboard your coach and pass Reeves Point -- site of the first official European settlement in South Australia.
Next, discover American River, first visited by Europeans in 1802. In 1803, a group of American sealers camped here and built the 35-ton schooner Independence from local lumber.
Your final stop is at the amazing Pennington Bay -- an impressive stretch of coastline that is a favorite among local surfers and for fishing. In the right weather conditions, giant waves crash against the shore, further eroding the towering cliffs above.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. A limited number of shops are open on weekends in Kingscote. Tour does not operate on holidays. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
