On this unguided bus tour, you will stop to visit some of the most important and picturesque sites on the Isle of Pines.
First, you’ll drive past the spectacular white sand Kuto Beach; then visit the old convict ruins that once imprisoned French and Arabian convicts.
Continue to Vao village, you will see the town hall, post office and small clinic before stopping to take photos at Saint Maurice Bay. Here you will see traditional kanak wood carvings placed around a religious memorial that celebrates the arrival of the first Catholic Marist brothers on the Isle of Pines in 1848.
Don’t miss the Notre Dame de l’Assomption Church (1861) in the heart of the village. Vao village was established at the same time the church was founded, to bring tribes and families together so that all could receive the teachings of the mission.
At the end of this tour you will be a little more informed about Kuto -- the island and the people that call it home.
Notes:
