Journey westward into the heart of Huhu -- the home of the war canoe and center of the historically cannibalistic hinterland. Interestingly, this is also the place where part of the PNG constitution was initially drafted by the first Governor-General, Sir John Guise.
Hear about the Tawala Native culture and history, and visit the local market, the largest in the region with everything from Bananas and Bags to Betel nut.
A drive to Bibiko Village allows you to see how Western culture has been integrated into the traditional way of life. See firsthand what PNG village life is like, and taste succulent dishes cooked in clay pots -- taro, banana, cassava, yam and leafy green vegetables.
On the way back to the pier, visit Top Town lookout to get a full view of the town and greater Milne Bay Province.
Your last stop is at the Milne Bay War Memorial. The battle of Milne Bay was incredibly important. Learn why ownership of this thin coastal corridor, which seems too remote to matter, was bitterly contested in a battle that was brutally fought to the death.
Notes:
