Cycle through Gisborne -- the first city in the world to see the light of each new day and the place where Maori explorers first set foot in New Zealand.
As you ride, your guide will point out where English discoverer Captain James Cook first made contact with local Maori people almost 250 years ago. (S)he will share some interesting stories about the settlement of the Gisborne area by Maori and Europeans as you view the Cook's Landing National Heritage Site.
The six-plus miles (10 km) route takes you on cycle ways, past monuments, around important historical sites, and through the city streets. Don't miss checking out the lovely old architecture, including the Tairawhiti Museum & Art Gallery.
Then we will head to the riverside cycle trail and return to the port.
Notes:
The cycling is on flat terrain on cruiser, low-step touring cycles. Minimum age is 10 years.
