Here's a rare chance to see stingrays being fed in the wild at Tatapouri Bay. This is a beautiful area 30 minutes north of Gisborne by road.
As you head out from the pier, you will pass Wainui Beach and travel along the Pacific Coast Highway to Tatapouri, where you will be warmly welcomed. Follow your guide to the nearby rocky reef shelf, where (s)he will attract the stingrays with food. You'll be amazed at the grace and gentleness of these wild stingrays and eagle rays.
Learn about the rich marine life in this area, which has been harvested by the local Maori people for many hundreds of years.
Later, while enjoying light refreshments, you will hear stories about the Maori people and why they settled along the coastline.
