Take in the iconic sites of Darwin. Discover this beautiful and fascinating tropical city, shaped by tales, characters and events that are its own unique history.
The first iconic story is of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Founded by the Reverend John Flynn, it began its aero-medical operations in the Northern Territory in 1939. At the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Center, you'll uncover a wealth of information about this vital service that literally keeps the Outback alive.
Take part in two cutting-edge cinema experiences -- approximately 20 minutes each -- using the latest innovations in holographic technology. You'll have time to wander independently through the interpretive and interactive displays, which also relay the facts surrounding the infamous World War II Bombing of Darwin.
Finally, journey onwards to see a massive B-52 bomber aircraft. The only one of its kind displayed in the Southern Hemisphere, military aircraft and other relics at the Darwin Aviation museum. Uncover interesting stories about Darwin’s aviation history and wartime experience, including the role of female aviators along with 19 aircraft. View the replica spitfire, Royal Australian Navy Wessex helicopter, mammoth B52 bomber, 21 engines, impressive presentations, displays and watch the rare amateur colour footage of the first air-raid in Darwin on display.
Notes:
The tour includes general admission fee to both museums. It does not include admission to special exhibits in either museums. Wear warm-weather clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat, sunglasses and adequate sun protection. Tour does not operate on holidays.
