Board a motorcoach at the pier bound for the Mossman Gorge Centre.
Discover the rainforest and meet with the local indigenous Kuku Yalanji people who are the traditional owners of the land. Mossman Gorge is one of the few places in the country that visitors can gain an insight into the lives, culture and beliefs of Australia's indigenous population and its connection to the natural environment. Your indigenous Aboriginal guide welcomes you with a traditional 'smoking' ceremony that wards off bad spirits.
Then, you'll set out on a meandering walk through the fascinating rainforest and past traditional huts or humpies. Learn about traditional plant use, identify bush food sources, and watch some local traditions, such as ochre painting and making bush soaps. Enjoy a fresh, tasty lunch and browse the gift shop and art gallery before returning to Cairns in the afternoon.
This tour is a wonderful way to give back to the local community as it helps to provide indigenous Australians with tourism and hospitality training and offers a venue for indigenous artists to showcase their works.
