Board a motorcoach bound for Stanley in the far northwest region of Tasmania.
Your first stop is at Highfield House, built in 1834 and considered the "birthplace" of European settlement in Tasmanian history. This 19th-century estate is a rare example of residential architecture from the Regency period (1811-1820) characterized by a geometric design.
Continue on a narrated drive through Stanley, population 500 -- one of the smallest towns on the northwest coast of Tasmania.
The Nut, a 500-foot-tall natural volcanic formation created from dried magma, features steep sides with a flat top. A steep walking path or a chairlift ride is included for those who want a view from the top. You'll have some free time in the town of Stanley to wander among the shops or purchase lunch (at your own expense) before returning to the motorcoach.
En route back to Burnie, you'll stop in the village of Boat Harbour. The road via Rocky Cape cuts through a National Park filled with rockpools, wildflowers, bushwalks and Aboriginal caves tucked away in the cliff face. Enjoy the ride and the splendid scenery along the route.
Notes:
