The Auckland Museum is a neo-Cassical building overlooking the picturesque Waitemata Harbour. This facility features exhibits on New Zealand and Pacific Island cultures and showcases an extensive collection of Polynesian artifacts. Explore the museum with a knowledgeable guide or independently. Highlights include a large Maori meeting house and a mighty 82-foot war canoe carved from a single totara tree. The top floor details New Zealand’s involvement in various wars.
A panoramic drive takes you past some of Auckland’s most popular sights, including beautiful beaches and the cosmopolitan downtown area, where European, Asian, and South Pacific influences are reflected in the city’s architecture. Modern skyscrapers and restored Victorian buildings coexist in harmony.
