Travel from the original 'Port Misery' to explore the history of Port Adelaide, Largs Bay and Semaphore -- your chance to uncover the story of Australia's early settlers who traveled across the world to make a new home in a foreign land.
Begin with a visit to the historical Torrens Island Quarantine Station -- once the state's first line of defense for containing transferable diseases such as smallpox.
You will tour the world's oldest Clipper ship -- the City of Adelaide. The ship is one of only two composite Clipper ships remaining in the world. You'll hear tales of survival set amid tortuous journeys for those venturing across the globe in the hope of a better life in a new land.
A short walk brings you to the South Australia Maritime Museum. Don't miss its collection of mastheads. You'll also hear about the Mosquito Fleet and read the Scuttlebutt, depicting early life behind the scenes in Port Adelaide.
Venturing to Largs Bay, you'll pass careworn boatsheds and the iconic Largs Bay Hotel. The latter is home to the famous Adelaide bands Cold Chisel and AC/DC, so you will stop for a photo here. Then, stroll up Semaphore Road to appreciate its eclectic and eccentric range of boutiques, shops and cafés.
A pub lunch at a local establishment is your chance to kick back and savor genuine Aussie hospitality.
