Officially designated an International Foreign Settlement in 1903, the small island of Gulangyu today features a wealth of charming colonial buildings.
Travel by chartered ferry from the ship to the island. Stepping ashore, you will take a guided walk among classic and romantic European-style architecture dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Your guide will show you some of the interesting colonial buildings and tell you a bit of the local history that surrounds them.
See the Haitian Tanggou Villa complex, where you will be able to watch a traditional Chinese puppet show.
Afterwards, enjoy some free time to walk through the narrow streets and explore before you return to Xiamen and the ship after this intriguing experience.
