Enjoy a scenic journey along Lake Mikatagoko Rainbow Drive, offering stunning views of the Mikata Five Lakes, en route to the mountain town of Wakasa.
Upon reaching the Lake Mikatagoko Cable Car station, begin your ascent to the mountaintop. At the summit, spectacular views of the five lakes await. Each has a different salt concentration and a unique color influenced by the seasonal foliage surrounding it.
Chopstick-making in Wakasa dates back to the Edo period. Indeed, 80 percent of Japanese lacquered chopsticks are made in Wakasa. Today, participate in a chopstick workshop, where you will polish your own chopsticks and take them home as a lovely memento of the day.
Enjoy some free time at the Wakasa Fisherman’s Wharf, facing out onto Obama Bay, with souvenir shops and a restaurant, before a leisurely ride back to Tsuruga.
Notes:
No guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary and are beyond the tour operator’s control. The cable car operates weather permitting; in the event it is not operating, more time at Wakasa Fisherman’s Wharf will be substituted. Dress in layers; wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
