This transfer may suit you if you would like to explore on your own. It consists of a motorcoach ride from the ship to Shirakawago -- widely known as one of the most scenic places in Japan. Nestled along the shores of the Shokawa River, Shirakawago is surrounded by dramatic pine tree-covered mountains.
Here you'll find the unique Japanese thatched-roof farmhouses that are the center of attention. There are approximately 90 thatched farmhouses, sheds, and barns built about 200-300 years ago and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are examples of the gassho-zukuri style, a form of construction that resembles hands clasped in prayer.
You will be dropped off at a central location, and the coach escort will advise you of the pick-up time for the return journey. You will have approximately 3 hours to shop and explore independently.
Notes:
Guide service, taxi transfers, entrance fees and lunch are not included in the transfer price. It is your responsibility to be at the pick-up point at the given return time. An English-speaking escort will be aboard the transfer motorcoach to answer questions en route. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Travel time to Shirakawago is approximately 1.5 hours each way.
