Shodoshima Island is the largest island in the Kagawa Prefecture. Known growing olives and soybeans and the mountainous interior featuring one of Japan's most celebrated gorges.
Take a short cotheach transfer to the nearby ferry terminal for a 30-minute boat ride to the fascinating Shodoshima Island. Upon arrival, board a coach for a scenic drive to the spectacular Kankakei Gorge, rated as one of Japan's top three most beautiful gorges. Enjoy a cable car ride through the gorge, offering breathtaking views of the dynamic landscape. Take in panoramic vistas from the various observation decks.
Next, you will visit Kinryo Soy Sauce Brewery, founded in 1880. Soy sauce has been made here in the traditional manner for more than 100 years. Step inside the old brewery building to see the huge wooden barrels and take in the distinct smell of soy in the air. Try your hand at combining ingredients to make your very own flavor of soy sauce and take your creation home as a souvenir!
Enjoy a traditional Japanese set menu for lunch before heading to the Olive Garden.
Visit the Olive Garden and stroll among the trees. Having a climate similar to the Mediterranean makes Shodoshima one of the only places in Japan where olive groves can flourish. As you explore the garden, don’t miss the replica of a Greek windmill to commemorate the sister island status of Shodoshima and Mykonos in Greece. You'll have time to shop for souvenirs here before you return to Takamatsu by ferry and transfer back to the ship.
