Depart the pier and drive to the Umegae Sake (pronounced sa-kay) Brewery near Sasebo city. This brewery has been operating since the Edo period, more than a hundred year ago. Nowadays, the brew masters maintain the traditional way of making sake. They use a precise combination of water and rice and ensure that the fermentation takes place at the right temperature and for the required duration.
Enjoy learning all about the process and the care that is taken in making excellent sake. After looking around the traditional brewery, you will also have chance to buy the spirits made here.
Then, head to Mt Yumihari for a spectacular view of Saikai National Park, which includes the Saikai Bridge and 99 Islands. A drive to the Saikai Bridge lets you see for yourself why it is well known for its views of tidal swirls -- a phenomenon created by current colliding in the narrow channel before returning to the pier.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. No guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary and are beyond the tour operator’s control.
