From the bustle of Georgetown’s waterfront to the unspoiled countryside of Penang, complete a circuit of the island to take in its many sights and attractions. You’ll visit the Thai Buddhist Temple—home to the fourth-largest Reclining Buddha in the world. Enjoy the leisurely scenic drive toward the northern end of the island, passing the beautiful coves and bays of Batu Ferringhi. Admire the coastal view as it brings you to the Craft Batik Workshop, where you’ll watch a demonstration of the intricate and timeless art of printing cloth with wax and dyes. Scents of clove and nutmeg follow you as you continue your drive through the hills. Pause at a local fruit and spice stall to acquaint yourself with fresh local produce; then, proceed through the countryside, passing tranquil Malay villages. Arriving at the southern tip of the island, you’ll continue along the coastal road to view the Penang Bridge—the fifth-longest bridge in the world. Hop off the coach to stretch your legs and snap some photos before heading to the majestic Khoo Kongsi. This is the most beautiful Chinese Clan House to be built outside China. Its intricate wood and granite carvings, together with 24 stone carved classic examples of filial piety, make this a must-see for visitors to Penang.
