The world's largest statue of Buddha is the first of many interesting sights that await you in the city of Nara, a center of arts, literature and religion.
Nara is home to a number of imposing buildings and landmarks, as you will discover on today's motorcoach tour. The Todaiji (Great Buddha) is cast in bronze and set in an enormous wooden building. See this star attraction for yourself to fully appreciate it.
Then, continue to the Kasuga Shrine before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. Re-boarding the coach, you'll continue to Horyuji Temple —the oldest temple in Japan and home to some of the nation's rarest treasures. Additionally, it is reputed to be among the world's oldest wooden buildings. Its interior walls are covered with clay images depicting the Buddha's life.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Some buildings in the temples and shrines area may be closed for restoration without prior notice. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse. Tour sequence may vary.
