Hop aboard a yellow school bus and spend a couple of hours gaining perspective on what it's like to live and work in Nome. This town is best known as the finish line in the famous annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race from Willow (near Anchorage) to Nome. Your guide is a Nome resident and will share some unique perspectives on life here, perched on the shores of the Bering Sea.
Meet a local finisher of the Iditarod and see how to pan for gold with the help of a resident miner who will share stories of the Nome gold rush.
Mighty musk oxen roam freely on the tundra -- keep an eye out, and you might be lucky enough to spot a few.
End your tour at the Carrie McLean Museum to browse among the exhibits on the history, culture and geography of sub-arctic Alaska.
A courtesy shuttle will return you to the harbor or you can wander back on foot (approximately .75 mile).
