Discover the scenic highlights of lovely southern Miyako Island.
Begin your day with a visit to Makiyama Observatory, where you’ll walk a botanical pathway to capture picture-perfect views overlooking Miyako, Irabu and the bridges that connect the surrounding islands.
Continue to Shimoji Island, where you’ll admire two round ponds called Tori-ike, noted for their combination of fresh water and sea water, which produces constantly changing color and learn about their mythical history.
Next, you’ll capture stunning pictures of Irabu Ohashi Bridge, Okinawa’s longest bridge, spanning between Irabu and Miyako against expansive sky and sparkling sea vistas.
Keep your camera at the ready for the next photo stop, Maehama Beach, a stunning stretch of soft white sand back on Miyako, where you will have some free time to stroll along the water’s edge.
En route back to the pier, stop at a local souvenir shop for some free time to find that perfect memento of your visit.
