Board a boat in Malé and head to Bandos Island Resort — one of the longest-standing resorts in the Maldives. Bandos opened in 1972, the year that tourism was introduced to the Maldives. It lies in a premium spot in the North Malé Atoll — just 45 minutes from Malé. This is one of the 105 resort islands in Maldives, where a "one island, one resort" concept rules the day.
Explore this small island hideaway, swathed in lush vegetation. It embodies the essence of the Maldives, with coconut palms and tropical greenery, surrounded by the resort's famed white-sand beach and crystal-clear waters. Turquoise merges with sapphire as the lagoon meets the ocean at the edge of the reef. It's a stunningly beautiful experience, and the island architecture here celebrates and preserves the beauty of the surrounding nature. The beach around the resort is ideal for snorkeling.
After approximately three hours on the resort island, you will then return to Malé, the capital city, and return to the ship.
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. You will likely get wet in the boat. To avoid damage or loss, leave all electronic devices and valuables in your safe on the ship. Holland America is not responsible for damage to, loss of, or theft of these items. Food and beverages are available for purchase and are not included. Snorkeling and watersports are available for an additional cost (payable at the resort).
