Bundala National Park is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory birds in Sri Lanka. Spread over 23 square miles, between August and April it is host to more than 15,000 shorebirds. As well as 149 different species of resident and migratory birds, Bundala is also home to elephants, deer and wild buffalo. This unique area of mudflats and lagoons, in the Hambantota district of the southern province, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Today with a professional ornithologist, you will have the opportunity to spot some of this wonderful wildlife, especially the greater flamingo that migrates in large flocks—as many as 2,000 have been recorded here at one time.
