This tour is an introduction to the wondrous architecture of KL -- an excellent combination of highlights and attractions, suburbs and the Batu Caves. Along the way, you’ll have a front row seat to many of the 21st-century industrial centers that dot the area and through a large suburban area.
At the spellbinding Batu Caves, marvel at the colorful displays of Hindu deities. These caves are a natural limestone wonder that attract many visitors. There are three main caves and several smaller ones, and one features an ornate Hindu shrine. Climb the 272 steps that scale the steep, jagged face of the limestone outcropping.
Your next stop will be at the National Museum -- Malaysia’s premier museum, which serves as a repository for the nation’s rich history and heritage. Trace the nation’s development over the decades as you explore its galleries. Independence Square, the former playing field of the Royal Selangor Club, is also the site where important events, celebrations and streets parades are held. Located within the square is the Royal Selangor Club -- a charming mock-Tudor structure. Another remarkable building is the Sultan Abdul Samad house, which served as the government offices during the British era. Not to be missed is the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin, an Anglican Church in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
After lunch, you will visit the observation deck of the world’s fourth-tallest communication tower -- the KL Tower. This majestic 1,381-foot-tall tower offers stunning 360-degree views of the entire city. Before you return to the ship you will stop for photos at the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers.
Notes:
Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk is uphill over unpaved, rough walking tracks with many steps. The Batu Caves portion of the tour is very strenuous, suitable only for the fit and healthy, and involves climbing up 272 steps. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and short skirts are not allowed. Guests are not permitted to feed the monkeys. Wear sturdy, comfortable closed-toe walking shoes; bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Travel time to Kuala Lumpur is approximately 1½ hours each way.
