Experience an entirely different side of Japan with a guided walk through the country's largest and most significant marshland. Leaving the port, you will head to the Onnenai Visitor Center, located on the west side of Kushiro Shitsugen National Park. The visitor center is the starting point of a boardwalk that stretches through the swamp.
The Kushiro Marshland is the country's largest and is known for its unique ecosystem, which can be observed directly from the walkway. Visitors come to this area to see flowers from the Ice Age (found only in eastern Hokkaido), as well as a variety of alpine flora and fauna and the distinctive seasonal changes of the region.
Stroll along the boardwalk with your knowledgeable nature guide as you take in the beautiful scenery and fresh air.
Notes:
Two hours of walking is required. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The Onnenai Visitor Center is not open on Tuesdays so you will not be able to go inside, however you will still have access to some facilities such as restrooms and seating outside.
