Embark on a captivating journey to the picturesque Osaek Valley in Seoraksan National Park -- a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Renowned for its vibrant fall foliage, this scenic haven boasts captivating rock formations and a fascinating history. Its name means "five colors" and is inspired by the five hues found in Jujeongol's rock formations and in the legendary five-colored tree associated with Osaekseoksa Temple's ancient tales.
Your adventure begins with a leisurely two-mile walk along a trail linking the Seongguksa Temple, Seonnyeotang Pothole, and Yongso Falls Information Center. This accessible one-hour route, complete with wooden decks, offers an enchanting journey through rising rocks and lush surroundings. The Osaek Mineral Spring welcomes you at the entrance, delivering water with a distinctive flavor owing to natural carbonation and a high iron content.
Marvel at the extraordinary rock formations along the way, including some of Namseorak's iconic landmarks.
Visit the vast Sokcho Tourist & Fisheries Market, whose 450 stores include fish stalls in the basement and two above-ground levels selling food, clothing, snacks and local delicacies. Don't miss to try some dak-gangjeong (sweet and sour chicken) -- a small but delicious bite.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
