After a 90-min drive from the port, your journey starts from the War Memorial of Korea, established to remember the Korean War (1950–53) and to symbolize the desire for peaceful reunification of Korea. This huge museum documents the history of the Korean War using multimedia exhibits and black-and-white documentary footage, along with artefacts like weapons, uniforms, and maps. Outside, a sombre memorial walkway is inscribed with the names of every casualty from the allied forces. There are plenty of tanks, helicopters and planes too, and just to remind you that the war remains unresolved, you can clamber aboard a replica of the patrol boat sunk by North Korean forces in 2002.
After lunch at local restaurant, visit Bongeunsa Temple, originally located near the Royal Tomb of King Seongjong, the temple was transferred to its current location during Joseon King Myeongjong’s reign. The temple is home to 3,479 Buddhist scriptures of 13 types, including the works of Kim Jeong-hee. The Buddhist ceremony called Jeongdaebulsa is held on the ninth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, where monks march carrying the scriptures on their heads and recite the Beopseongge (Buddhist rites).
Lastly, you will have a chance to enjoy the view of Seoul on the top of Seoul Sky Tower that sparks an overwhelming sensation with its magnificent size to whoever looks up at its grandeur. Reaching 555 meters in height, it is the tallest building in Korea. The skyscraper’s highlight attraction SEOUL SKY on the 117th to 123rd floors allow visitors to take in a 360-degree panoramic view of the city.
