This morning, experience the hustle and bustle of the Hakodate Morning Market, comprised of roughly 250 stores adjacent to the JR Hakodate Station. Sample some fresh seafood and immerse yourself in the market's lively atmosphere.
Visit the Goryokaku Tower and note the graceful pentagonal fort structure. It was built in 1864 to defend Hokkaido against would-be invaders. The grounds are now a lovely park open to the public.
You'll walk to the Hakodate Magistrate’s Office, which opened in 2010. It was rebuilt as a faithful copy of the original building using traditional methods. In keeping with Japanese custom, remove your shoes and step inside to view the historical exhibits.
Return to the ship after your tour.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. You must remove your shoes at the Hakodate Magistrate’s Office. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Tour order may vary. As the Morning Markets are within walking distance from the ship pier, some groups will visit the markets first by walking, then continue on the remainder of the tour.
