Capture the flavor of Hokkaido -- a province that is distinctly different from the rest of Japan -- with a visit to the Hakodate Morning Market. This bustling epicenter of Hokkaido commerce is comprised of roughly 250 stores and is located near the JR Hakodate Station. Enjoy some fresh seafood and the lively atmosphere of the market.
Relax on a panoramic drive through the downtown core of Hakodate.
You will board the aerial cableway for a ride up to the summit of Mt Hakodate. This lovely, wooded mountain rises to more than 1,200 feet at the end of the peninsula on which the city sits. Needless to say, it commands a stunning view over Hakodate.
Return to the city for a visit to the Kanemori Red-Brick Warehouse District, remodeled in 1988 as part of a waterfront redevelopment with a theme of combining the old and the new. From the warehouse area, you will return directly to the ship.
Notes:
The aerial cableway operates weather permitting; the tour coach will be used to ascend the mountain if the cableway is closed. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Tour order may vary. As the Morning Markets are within walking distance from the ship pier, some groups will visit the markets first by walking, then continue on the remainder of the tour.
