Drive to the ancient Kashima Jingu Shrine. Takemikazuchi-no-Okami, god of warriors, is enshrined here. Many samurais worshipped this god, including Tokugawa Ieyasu -- the first Shogun lord of Japan. The forest within the shrine has trees that are more than 500 years old. You'll also see the first Tori gate to be made of stone, built after the original fell in the 2011 earthquake.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour requires walking on flat road at Kashima Jingu Shrine area. Traffic can be unpredictable. The driver will do his/her best to keep moving safely. Your patience is greatly appreciated. Delays occasionally extend tour duration. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
