Halong Bay is made up of 1,969 islands of various sizes, 989 of which have been given names. Translated as the Bay of Descending Dragons and located in the Gulf of Tonkin, Halong Bay boasts mystical landscapes that are one of Asia's most iconic sights. Some 1,600 islands and islets form a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars (known as karsts), lush islands and emerald waters. Spend the day discovering this National Treasure by kayak.
Board a junk (wooden boat) from the barge alongside the ship and transfer to the kayak location. From here, paddle your two-person kayak around the bay, with opportunities to pause at some of the numerous grottoes and caves on the islands and to step ashore to explore on foot. Ascending one of the surrounding hills will afford memorable panoramic views of the verdant islands and shimmering waters below.
Breathtaking beyond words, Halong Bay is one of the world's natural wonders and deserves its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Reboard the junk and cruise to visit Thien Cung Cave.
Enjoy memorable panoramic views of the verdant islands and shimmering waters below as you climb the steps to the cave, before the relaxing cruise back to the tender pier.
Notes:
Tour requires strenuous activity. Although sometimes perceived as a passive and relaxing sport, kayaking comes with inherent physical challenges and is therefore advisable only for those in good health. Previous kayaking experience is not required. Guests are advised to leave their belongings at theor seats in the junk boats. Avoid bringing valuable items such as jewellery or expensive watches.
