Visit Hanoi -- Vietnam’s capital and a remarkable city that will seduce you with its old-world charm. Boasting a romantic blend of ancient Asian and French heritage, Hanoi boasts that it is the jewel in Vietnam’s crown. It is a 2.5-hour drive from the pier, and upon arrival in Hanoi, you will drive past Ba Dinh Square in the Ho Chi Minh Quarter.
Nearby, you will step inside the Temple of Literature, built in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius. This serene retreat from the busy streets was Vietnam’s first university.
After lunch, enjoy a bit of old Hanoi as you visit Ngoc Son Temple on a tiny island located in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Restored Sword), reached by an arched footbridge; the Thirty-Six Streets -- an ancient district where the essence of Old Vietnamese culture is alive and well.
Finally, reboard your motorcoach for the return journey through the undulating countryside to Halong.

Travel time to Hanoi is approximately 2.5 hours each way. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and short skirts are not allowed. Shoes and hats must be removed before you enter the temple(s). Bring along a pair of thick socks to protect your feet from the hot pavement.
