Begin your day with a scenic panoramic drive to Cheonjeyeon Falls -- the pond of God. It is a three-part cascade around which a variety of plant life thrives, including the rare solipnan reeds. To the east is a cave where cold water pours from the ceiling to create the top tier. The water from the first waterfall becomes the second and third waterfalls and flows into the sea.
In Cheonjeyeon Valley, you will see the Seonimgyo Bridge with seven nymphs carved on the side and the octagonal Cheonjeru Tower. The surface of the Cheonjeru Tower features a painting that tells Cheonjeyeon’s legend of the nymph and the mountain god. Every other May, the Chilseonyeo Festival is held here.
You will also visit the Yakcheonsa Temple, whose architectural style is reminiscent of the early Joseon Dynasty Buddhist temples. It is the largest temple in the East and is an impressive 98 feet tall and spanning a total area of 35,000 square feet. A 16-foot-tall statue of Vairocana greets you when you enter the temple. The walls on both the right and left have been sculpted into large altar portraits of Buddha, and in front of the Dharma Hall is a giant Buddhist temple bell weighing 18 tons. Beloved for its size and grandeur, the temple consists of the main temple and a three-story residential structure for Buddhist monks. Other notable sites are the Dharma Hall, built inside a natural cave, the Samseongak Shrine and the Sarira Pagoda.
After your visit, you’ll return to the pier in Jeju.
