Visit Seongeup Folk Village, located at the foot of Mt Halla. Here, precious cultural relics, handed down from generation to generation, include residential houses, Confucian shrines and schools, ancient government offices, fortress ruins and stone monuments.
Among the cultural gems of the folk village are some intangible cultural assets -- folkloric plays, native cuisine, craftsmanship, and the local dialect. Even the trees here are an important part of the area’s heritage. Several zelkova and nettle trees, hundreds of years old, stand at the center of the village, preserving the dignified atmosphere of a bygone era.
Next, head to Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site that rose from the sea in a volcanic eruption more than 100,000 years ago. Located at the eastern end of Jeju Island, the peak features a huge crater at its top, about 2,000 feet in diameter and 300 feet deep. While the southeast and north sides are cliffs, the northwest side is a verdant grassy hill connected to the Seongsan Village.
After this spectacular encounter with Jeju’s culture and nature, you’ll return to the pier.
