Day 1 (L/D)
Leave the ship in Laem Chabang and set out to visit the ancient capital. Step back into the days when Thailand was Siam as you take in the unforgettable beauty of Ayutthaya—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of Thailand from 1350 to 1767. It is a lovely three-hour scenic drive from Laem Chabang to the historic city of Ayutthaya, where you will enjoy lunch at a local hotel. Re-board your coach to explore some of Ayutthaya’s most famous and interesting ruins including Wat Yai Chai Mongkon—the Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory against the Burmese. The monastery was constructed by King U-thong in 1357 A.D and was also named "Wat Pakaew". Continue your visit with a stop at Wat Chai Wattanarm-- a replica of the Angkor Wat Temple and Wat Mahathat, one of Ayutthaya’s oldest temples. Don’t miss the Buddha in a Bodhi tree. Re-board your coach for a one-hour drive back to Bangkok and check in at Pullman Hotel G Bangkok Silom. In the evening enjoy dinner at a Thai Restaurant with a Thai dancing show. Return to your hotel after a pleasant evening.
Day 2 (B/L)
After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and transfer to the river pier. Here, board a chartered motor launch that will take you through Bangkok’s waterway into one of the canals. See houses built on stilts, and pass the Royal Barge dockyard. You will also pass by the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), whose 259-foot spire, with magnificent multicolored porcelain-studded towers, has become the part of the visual identity of Bangkok, with the Chao Praya River in the foreground. Upon returning to the pier, a short walk will lead you to the most significant tourist attraction in Thailand—the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple was built according to traditional Thai beliefs from the Sukhothai era. Golden stupas, walls and pillars encrusted in shining and colorful mosaics all gleam under the sun. Admire the small but significant Phra Kaew or Emerald Buddha statue, carved from a single piece of jade — the most revered and precious image of Buddha. The magnificent buildings of the Grand Palace impart the grandeur Thai architectural style. It was constructed some 220 years ago by the command of King Rama I, the founder of the capital Bangkok. It was once the residence of the Royal Family, before Chitralada Summer Palace was turned into the permanent home. The Grand Palace is now used for ceremonial purposes and to accommodate royal visits. After a sumptuous lunch, transfer back to the Port of Laem Chabang.
Notes:
Some parts of the Grand Palace are restricted to visitors so not all buildings are open. Dusit Mahaprasat and the Audience Hall of Amarin Winitchai are closed on Saturday & Sundays and can be viewed only from outside of the halls. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or walking difficulties as many venues require lots of walking and the ability to navigate steps and uneven surfaces unassisted.
