Experience a world of legendary beauty with a drive to the Oga Peninsula. Rugged, breathtaking, and mysterious, the area boasts steep cliffs, volcanic crater lakes, and the stuff of ancient legends.
At the Mt Kanpuzan Observatory, climb the stone steps that lead to the rotating observation platform and admire the views from a bird's-eye perspective. The scenery changes as you rotate 360 degrees, with many varied photo opportunities courtesy of the landscape, which is devoid of trees.
A small gift shop sells items from the Oga peninsula and Akita Prefecture.
You may not be surprised to learn that this picturesque countryside is home to the namahage -- a monster believed to haunt lazy people and expel evil spirits. Uncover the truth behind the legend (or is it for real?) with a visit to the Namahage Museum.
Notes:
Tour sequence may vary. Mt. Kapuzan Observatory is not wheelchair accessible. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The view from the observatory is subject to the weather conditions.
