Embark on a scenic panoramic drive snaking along the Skeena River within the Great Bear Rainforest -- a route celebrated as one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Watch for bald eagles soaring above fresh, rugged landscapes.
Exchamsiks Provincial Park is your gateway to a Kitsumkalum First Nations cultural immersion. A ceremonial la bala sgan welcome awaits, meaning "the cedar mat is laid out." Kitsumkalum community members share food and introduce you to their traditional dance and drumming, enveloping you in their vibrant heritage. A roving gastronomy experience indoors includes homemade treats with local ingredients, highlighting raw fireweed honey in a delightful local dessert. Mingle with the Kitsumkalum people to learn about their handcrafted art and souvenirs.
Outdoors, the forest provides a natural theater. Stand in ankle-deep water to sample a crafted beverage and (if you wish) participate in a ritual cleansing for a deeper connection with the natural surroundings.
Notes:
Tour operates only on Westerdam's July 5, 2024 call. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour includes approximately one hour of optional walking. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer.
