Meet your guide trained in outdoor leadership and knowledgeable about the area's history, indigenous culture, and flora.
Travel by shuttle bus through the heart of Prince Rupert and along Highway 16 -- the city's only road connection to the mainland.
At the Tall Trees Trailhead near the base of Mt Oldfield, grab trekking poles and a water bottle. Then, set out on a short climb past a communications tower and head into the Great Bear Rainforest.
The first part of the trail is relatively level, meandering among tall cedars and thick undergrowth. For the next 2.8 miles, it's uphill to reach an elevation of approximately 1,000 feet asl. Here, the trail levels off, and a boardwalk across a marshy area is open to the sky. From the east side of Mt Oldfield, take in the view of Morse Basin and the Coast Mountains in the distance.
Take a 20-minute break for an energy-rich, locally-made snack and sandwich. Questions? This is the time to ask them, and your guide will answer them.
Trekking back along the same path, descend to the base of Mt Oldfield and return to Prince Rupert.
