Take a scenic panoramic drive out into the heart of the Tongass National Forest, where your capable guides will show you the remote places they like to explore on weekends.
Hike along a beautiful, moderately strenuous trail that winds through forest and muskeg down to the beach at Nemo Point near Turn Island. Keep a sharp lookout for deer, eagles, wolves and, sometimes, bears.
Once on the beach, take a pebbly/sandy seat and enjoy a boxed lunch. Keep your voice low, and you may hear whales spouting as they feed in the shallows.
The hike back is uphill. You’ll return to the ship from the trailhead.
Notes:
Terrain includes forest trail, mixed boardwalk, and gravel, with many steps, roots, rocks and uneven areas. The boardwalks are about two feet wide and about 12-18 inches above the forest floor. Hiking poles are provided. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as this is a strenuous hike with some elevation gain. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Suitable only for participants in good health and able to hike a mountain trail at a steady pace. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat and a scarf. Wear sturdy non-skid walking/hiking shoes. Your shoes will get wet and muddy. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
