Head out by boat on a magical discovery of wildlife in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Today is about animals — where they go, you go. The boat captain and your biologist guides will decide the best itinerary for the day, based on current conditions and the behavior of the animals at the time.
September is the last chance for animals to gorge on the bounty of the sea and land. Humpback whales feed on sand lance and herring, eagles clear the last of the salmon while their fledged young learn to find food where they may.
You may get to watch humpback whales bubble feeding, or harbor seals nursing their pups on floating ice. Look out for eagles feeding on salmon, catch sea otters at play in a kelp field, or perhaps even see bears feeding in a stream. Your experienced guides are very good at finding wildlife.
Your tour will include a short hike, stops to watch whales, bird spotting, and a search for bears.
Notes:
Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat.
