Hop aboard a day boat and explore the coastline of Valdez Bay and learn about the history and nature of this area, whose 21st-century identity is inextricably tied to oil.
You head west past the Old Cliff Gold Mine and hear stories about the construction, operations and planned reopening of the mine.
Watch for Anderson Waterfall as it cascades down the mountainside from the eponymous glacier.
You'll learn about two significant incidents that have shaped the community of Valdez -- the 1964 Alaska Earthquake and the building and operation of the Valdez Marine Terminal (1977), which marks the southern terminus of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.
