This unforgettable cruise through Alaska's visual paradise starts at Crescent Harbor. A small group (maximum six guests) sets out aboard a heated, covered cabin-cruiser boat. Your skipper will narrate as the boat navigates through the islands surrounding Sitka and out into Sitka Sound.
Learn about Sitka's local, natural, and marine histories and the Native populations before, during, and after the Russian era. You will see World War II bunkers. Watch for marine wildlife all along the way, and learn about the region's ecology. Wildlife encounters may include whales, sea lions, seals, sea otters, eagles, and a variety of marine birds.
You're headed to beautiful and scenic Camp Coogan Bay to view the Boar's Nest Floathouse and several other floathouses in the bay. Boar's Nest is a privately-owned floating home built in the 1920s during the heyday of the logging industry. Your guide tells you about Camp Coogan Bay's logging history and living off the grid in this remote bay. A slice of the real Alaska!
Enjoy a light snack and beverage while on board as you cruise back to Crescent Harbor.
Notes:
Minimum age is 5 years. Maximum weight is 250 lbs. Ride will be bumpy; guests who are pregnant or have a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the boat, which can be very steep at low tide. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
