Presented in multiple foreign languages simultaneously, this excursion combines a trip over the Klondike Highway with a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. It leaves you with plenty of time for shopping or other adventures while visiting Skagway -- the most famous gold rush city in Alaska.
Your experience begins on board a comfortable minibus whose large picture windows afford spectacular views as you travel through historical Skagway. You're headed north along the Klondike Highway and up through the West White Pass of the St Elias Range. This is the tallest coastal range in the world, and you are traveling one of North America's most scenic mountain roads.
Your guide imparts a century's worth of White Pass stories as you pass numerous landmarks, including the Dead Horse Trail, the old Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls and Moore Bridge. Opportunities to snap photos of stunning peaks and glaciers abound on this route. You'll travel from the coastal rain forest through the sub-Arctic taiga and ascend to the summit. At an elevation of 3,290 feet, the vast silence is broken only by the sound of the wind blowing across this veritable moonscape of rock -- barren except for stunted alpine flora and dotted with small lakes. Your guide will gladly take your picture here as a memento of your trip.
Upon arrival at Fraser, BC, you'll board a vintage narrow-gauge railcar for your trip aboard the world-famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, retracing the Trail of '98 from an entirely different perspective. The train takes you along the opposite side of the pass and down into the canyon, with new and breathtaking panoramas of mountains, glaciers, and waterfalls. Disembark in Skagway and make the most of some free time for exploring, shopping and catching gold fever.
Guests wear comfortable headphones that deliver the complete tour narration in their chosen language: Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Mandarin and English. Tour sequence may vary.
