Adventure, history and awe-inspiring wilderness await you on this outing with a locally-owned and -operated company with guides whose passion for mushing and for Alaska are self-evident.
Your journey begins with an entertaining ride with a knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of Lynn Fjord coastline. You're headed west to the Adventure Camp set in the former Dyea area. The town of Dyea is long gone -- a casualty of the end of the gold rush -- but the potential for adventure here remains alive and well.
Kick off your visit with a 'Musher Talk,' which shares the fascinating answers to all of your questions. Your hosts have been sharing their passion for dog-sledding for years. Of course, you'll also have plenty of time to play with the puppies. Your affection and interaction help to socialize these future athletes -- essential to their racing success -- so you are shaping the sled dogs of the future.
Next, enjoy some time around the campfire and learn how to create the perfect, delicious outdoor treat as your guide teaches you the fine art of s'mores roasting. The vital steps include perfectly toasting the graham cracker, warming the chocolate, and roasting the perfect marshmallow, then combining it all for the most astounding s'more. It's hard work, but someone has to do it!
Take a self-guided nature hike through dense Alaskan forest to see some beautiful waterfalls, or browse in the gift shop and relax in the saloon with a deck overlooking a picturesque stream.
Notes:
Wear clothing that is easy to clean as the dogs can be enthusiastic in their greetings, and clothing can get dirty. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
