This trek is a two-hour hike through a glacial icescape.
Take off from Juneau by helicopter and soar over the Juneau Ice Field to the glacier.
Upon landing, listen to your guide, as there is an early emphasis on learning the proper use of the mountaineering gear (rain- and windproof outerwear, gloves, boots, ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet) and understanding the glacier features and hazards so that remote areas of the glacier can be accessed during the trek.
The trek includes more physical activity than the Glacier Walkabout, interspersed with detailed explanations of the glacial environment and surrounding area.
Participants should be comfortable hiking for two hours over uneven and sometimes steep terrain. This trek is both adventurous and easy -- no prior experience is required.
