Leave the small boat harbor and leave the harbor with a cruise past the Homer Spit -- a remnant of a glacier that once enveloped the entire area.
Your boat then heads out to Gull Rock -- one of the area's largest bird rookeries. Your captain will narrate this experience, explaining the massive influx of seasonal migratory birds this area receives each year.
Continue through Eldred Passage and past Tutka Bay, renowned for its artist community. You will visit Yukon Island and Heskah Island in further search of other wildlife.
Your tour concludes as you cross Kachemak Bay en route back to Homer, keeping an eye out for birds, seals, otters, and whales.
Notes: Wildlife sightings are likely but not guaranteed. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the boat, which can be very steep at low tide. Dress warmly in layered clothing with gloves, a scarf, and a hat; outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. You will not step ashore on the islands; viewing is from the boat.
