Renowned naturalists, magnificent wildlife, and an exploration of six ecosystems -- ocean, estuary, river, lake, muskeg, and rainforest -- await in the area aptly known as the Valley of the Eagles.
Board an expedition bus to follow the route of returning salmon along the scenic Chilkoot River. Nestled between rugged glaciers and snowcapped mountains, the fertile Chilkoot Valley is home to generations of brown bears, bald eagles, mountain goats, river otters and salmon.
Inquisitive visitors, bird watchers, and photographers are amazed by the area's migratory and resident birds, stunning photo opportunities, and Tlingit native legends told by your guide.
At a fish weir, technicians count migrating salmon.
On Chilkoot Lake, powerful spotting scopes allow for close-up views of mountain goats in alpine meadows, bears along the river, and nesting eagles. An invigorating nature walk beneath the canopy of magnificent trees and through ancient muskeg reveals a living tapestry within the temperate rainforest.
A narrated drive through Haines and historic Fort Seward returns you to the ship.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
