Join professional sea kayak guides on Chilkoot Lake, home to Pacific salmon, bald eagles, waterfowl and brown bears.
Your tour begins with a scenic drive to Chilkoot Lake. En route, you'll see downtown Haines and historic Fort William H. Seward -- one of the first U.S. Army outposts in Alaska.
At Chilkoot Lake, gear up and listen to an introduction to kayaking. No previous experience is necessary, and expert guides make everyone feel at ease in the comfortable kayaks.
The lake is home to all five species of Pacific salmon, numerous bald eagles, waterfowl, and brown bears. In addition to the thrill of kayaking in the midst of towering mountains, hanging glaciers and spectacular scenery, you may be treated to outstanding bear viewing from your stable and silent kayak.
Before returning to the ship, you'll enjoy a deli-style lunch and free time to relax and enjoy the lush environment.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat. Minimum age is 8 years. Participants taller than 6'8" or weighing more than 300 lbs may not fit comfortably in the kayaks. Maximum weight is 300 lbs. Guests who are pregnant past 20 weeks' gestation are not allowed to participate. Triple kayaks are used. Waiver must be signed, and medical conditions disclosed. Rain gear is provided. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
