This is an exclusive opportunity to experience the backcountry of Denali National Park in a single day. Your journey begins with a 35-minute flightseeing tour in a Cessna 206 single-engine aircraft from the eastern entrance of the Park to Kantishna. Your knowledgeable pilot will share the region's biology, geology, and history with you as you travel deep into Denali National Park and Preserve. You will fly along the Alaska Range and soar above the mountains, rivers, lakes, tundra, and the overall vast expanse of wilderness, offering an inspirational glimpse into untouched Alaskan nature. If the weather is clear, you might even have a chance to see Denali, the tallest mountain in North America and a treasured Alaskan landmark. When you land in the historic mining district of Kantishna, your journey on the ground begins! You will be transported to the exclusive Kantishna Roadhouse on the banks of Moose Creek and have the opportunity to explore the property and learn about the historic buildings. The original Roadhouse at Kantishna was built in 1918 and served as a private residence, a community center, a post office, and informal hotel accommodations. Many nights were spent spinning tales of the Alaskan trail over a hot cup of coffee and a hearty meal. You can still see the “original” Roadhouse and other remnants of the past around the property. After a brief stop for refreshments, you can join a guided hiking tour or choose to relax at the Roadhouse instead. After working up an appetite, it's time for lunch at the Roadhouse. You will discover a piece of Alaska’s gold rush history and the warm hospitality of the Roadhouse staff as you enjoy a tasty soup and sandwich lunch served in the dining area.
After lunch, you’re invited to try your luck at panning for gold in Moose Creek. If you prefer solitude, you may explore the historic grounds or put your feet up and relax on the lodge deck and immerse yourself in the natural scenery. After lunch activities, the shuttle will bring you to Wonder Lake, the most pristine area to view Mt. Denali, weather permitting. After Wonder Lake self-exploration, the shuttle will bring you to the Kantishna Airport for your flight back.
Notes: Minimum age is 2. This tour is headset equipped, fully narrated and all seats are window seats. Flight time is approximately 35 minutes each way.
