Explore Kodiak's spectacular beauty and wartime history with extended time for a scenic hike through a portion of 183-acre Fort Abercrombie State Park.
Depart the pier for the drive to park headquarters. You'll have three hours of free time to hike along well-maintained natural and gravel trails offering breathtaking views. A variety of seabirds inhabit the park's coastline, and whale sightings are frequently reported in this area throughout the season.
During your hike, you might see World War II bunkers -- remnants of Kodiak's wartime past. Depending how far you explore, portions of the trail lead you through forested areas with 10% to 20% inclines and a staircase of 68 steps. At the appointed time, meet your bus back at park headquarters for the return drive to the pier.
